Ombré Phone Case

The many uses of nail polish include turning a boring white phone case into a supah cool ombré one.

One of the results of my current obsession of ombré-ifying everything I can get my hands on.

Cheers,

Jacqueline

 Materials:
  • phone case (best results if white, the colors show up better this way)
  • several shades of nail polish
  • makeup sponge

Do this all on a surface you don't mind getting permanently dirty, or that you can throw away. I used a piece of notebook paper.

I used a credit card holding iPhone 4 case (perfect to hold my college ID and room card in!), but this'll work for any type of phone case.

Time: 20 minutes
 1.  Dip your sponge into the first nail polish color, and carefully begin dabbing along one end of the phone case. I'd recommend starting with the lightest color, that way as you move onto other colors, the sponge won't get dark polish on sections that are supposed to be light. Make sure to cover all the nooks and crannies!

2. Dip the sponge into the next color, and begin covering the next segment of the case. Partially overlap the two colors to start creating the ombré effect.
3. Keep repeating the process. As you continue working, you'll start seeing the ombré taking effect!
Dab dab dab dab dab.
Excuse my chipped polish.
 4. After you've covered the whole case, let it dry.

It probably won't look finished after just one coat, so if you'd like, add a second coat to make the colors more opaque (I did).
The sponge has a tendency to make the texture a little bumpy. If you'd like, apply a topcoat of clear nail polish to smooth out the design.

Let it dry for several hours. While the polish may appear dry after only a couple minutes, it takes a while for it to harden all the way through.
All finished!
Get ready to text and answer calls in style.
