To distract from the fact that my combats are super beat-up.
In honor of the best season (FALL!) being around the corner and my love affair with cool socks, I've prepared this tutorial for y'all! Hope it keeps your toes warm and spices up every outfit.
Cheers,
Jacqueline
Materials:
- Socks
- Lace (I'd recommend having socks and lace of the same color, but you can do whatever floats your boat!)
- Thread in the same color as your socks
- Needle
- Patience! (This will take a bit of time)
1. Begin by stretching your socks (as wide as they go) around a book.
It may take a couple tries to find the right book to fit your sock. This step is really important because if the sock isn't stretched enough, you won't be able to put it on your foot after the lace is attached. (Learned this the hard way ugh)
2. Line up your lace with the edge of your sock.
Tie a knot in the edge of your thread before you begin so it stays in place.
Don't cut the lace yet - it's hard to tell how much you'll need until the very end!
3. Sew the two fabrics together using the basic running stitch.
Keep on chugging!
If you use small stitches (which I recommend to ensure that the lace stays), this will seem to take a long time. But just keep going and it'll be done before you know it!
4. When you get to the end, cut off the lace. I cut each end slightly diagonally (in different directions).
5. Sew the last part in place! Make sure you tie your last knot tightly.
And voilà!
I've been rocking my lace socks with my favorite combat boots and my high top converse.
A tutorial on how Cobalt Collective styles lace socks coming soon!
